Deja Vu all over again

Yep. We signed up for the 2008 TRC. I would have liked to do something else but D needs to finish this race. I truly enjoyed the event but the dollar cost was pretty high. Look forward to it as I will be much more relaxed and personable this go around.

Have been working 12 hour days this week. Not a fan of big companies. Although nobody reads this (people might if I up-dated it more often and or had tits...Just adding fuel to the fire baby!!) I would like to say I am interested in perusing other professional interest at this time. (or in you and I speak my job is starting to suck more than it's worth)

-Boom
Oh...Just in-case there are any gold diggers in the audience. D-train's company, EKHO, has grossed a Million dollars for the first time in its short history. Hats off D. You have come along way from not knowing what accounts receivable are. Bottle of Blue label on the way!!

I am just sayin

OK I am just puttin it out there...

The basics of the race
Teams of two
9 Days
1000 Racers
900 K (560 Miles)
16000 M (53000 feet) of climbing
Much of the route is on private land and is only opened to mountain bikers once a year for the Absa Cape Epic. Daily stages are typically between 80 and 140km. There is always a combination of single track, rugged jeep tracks and fast flowing gravel roads, and as little tarred road as possible.
OK Here is the cost break down for the Cape epic.
Basic Package

  10. Transport of bike box/bag from Knysna to Lourensford

Premium Packages 17,800 R in addition to entry free. Total of 31,300 R ($4810 per team, $2400 per person)

The premium upgrade option is for those teams that would prefer a few more luxuries than our Absa Cape Epic tented race village offers. Premium package riders receive enhanced services at the race, including hotel/guest house accommodation, personal baggage assistance, personal massage services, etc. The number of premium packages is limited by accommodation available in the stage towns each year. The premium package is priced as an upgrade fee that is added to the normal entry fee. It is available for purchase in our online shop for teams that are officially registered.

This is what you get in addition to the normal entry package:

  • 6 nights in Hotel/Guest House/B&B, and a choice between 1 night in the race village or travel 20km to accommodation outside of town due to lack of accommodation. Please note: accommodation in Knysna on Friday night is NOT included.

We will group the premium teams into groups of 4 (8 riders). Each group of 4 teams will have their own passenger van for the duration of the race. One host/driver and one masseur will be dedicated to the group of 4 teams. The masseur will give each rider a 45 minute massage per day. The time of this massage can be arranged with your masseur. The host will collect and deliver all rider bags to the hotels and drive the teams between the race village and your hotel before and after the day's riding.
It is not possible for only 1 team member to upgrade - you must upgrade as a team.

Flight to Cape town, SA from Mpls
At least $2000 up to $3700

All figures are for next years event which is already sold out. Dates are Mar. 28 to Apr 5 2008

Cost break down
Entry Fee = $2100 per team ($1050 per person)
Premium package add on = $2710 per team ($1355 per person)
Flight = at least $2000 (as much as $3700)

So
Basic total = $3145 per person

Hello, Hello, Is this mic on...Homie....Fuck...Wheres my damn bike

Yeah I know, just shut it!!!

Homie was saturday...D-train, AC and I did this. We all lived but damn we aint whole no more.

D-Train
Ya, my knees have scabs, i rode my surly today and everything seemed crooked. My chrome bag smells like stale beer from the empties kevin threw in there. So pretty standard night.

AC
My left butt cheek is completely purple. And my
left forearm is bruised and scratched from the elbow down. I know I
crashed hard on that hill top, and I think I crashed while trying to
ride down the bluff by the dog park, but I'm not sure about the rest.
Bike is fine. Ditto on the stale beer smelly bag.

Booms
Two Bruised shoulders, raw knuckles, scabs on both knees, a rear wheel that barely turns (of course that would D-train wheel on me bike that I made square), a missing seat, a high speed stop into a street sign, 12 beers and a litre of Jamison...That about sums up my Homie!!! (of course not in that order)

Before Noon

Yeah I am going to need another Shot ( D 2nd flat)

I do not remember this...

TRC Quicky

Ok there is a lot to say so I am not going to say much

  • Awesome race, memories that I will have forever. Ton of fun

  • D-train got injured (yeah other than his broke finger, GI issues, Raw Bum) and had to call it a day with 20K left on Day Five.

  • Booms got lucky and finished the race

  • 320 Miles and 39,000 feet of climbing.

  • Ended up driving home alone as D and SS Chuck flew home

  • Stage by stage up-date with pics and movies to come later.

D-Train is not taking me calls no more...either he is in Asia or he be pissed at me.

On a side note. Truck is broke and I have road to work on me bike all week.
Because of the bridge going down 2 of my paths to work are clogged with cars. Use to be a ride in with little contact with vehicles. Not the case now. Have almost been run down 3 times this week and at least 3 times a day someone does something that would have put me in the hospital if I had not been paying attention.
Did find out something about myself. No matter how nice or shitty the morning is, it take 3 dumb fuck drivers to get me yellin. I guess I chalk the first two jackasses up to statistics.

More later

Up-date Up-date (one year from olimpics ((contains bad words and naked chicks...yeah so were we))

Here in is the first chapter of the chronicles of D-train and Booms transrockies challange. This started about a year ago. For a couple of ADD peeps this is a tremendous feat. As I sit here drink a pint ( a true one to bouut) watching chicks that I will only look at fondly but will not talk to I am recording the first week of this adventure and it has had it fill of shit.

In Bismark while trying to get a room we went out to the car and found that it would not start. After getting a tow truck, which was a big chore, we got the truck running and found out that the battery was bad and would not hold a charge. So it was 11 pm and we have been driving for 9 hours. We decided to drive on to Billings MT to get to a dealership to get this truck a movin. I took the wheel and drive 250 miles. Making sure to re-fuel early and to leave the truck running. Cory took over and I slept. I awoke to the middle of no where MT at 5 in the morning. The trucks gas gauge was below the E. Trust me on this we have a picture.

With no place in site to re fuel we hoped for the best. With in 10 miles we found d a gas station. Problem was that it did not open for an hour. Turned the truck off and bingo not start. Stuck in bum fuck MT out of gas, waiting to re-fuel a truck that will not start. There were dogs circling the truck Cugo like. Got a nice vid of the whole thing.
Yeah this was a really small town...

After we got gas and a jump we were off to Billings. Slept at the dealer till it opened. Got the truck working and decided to drive to Mosula MT. At this point it was 8 am. When we got out stop it was 3 pm. 25 hours after we left Mpls. Took a nap then went to eat. While eating we found out that the testicle festival was going on down the road. OK so we are on a road trip and stumble across some like that...Gota go. We went and it was crazy. Naked mountain people painting each other, drunk bull riding, crazy ass bands, bikers, naked mountain people. Got plenty of pix and vid of this one as well.

Truck at the shop

Testy Fest

Naked Mountain people with paint

We all knew that Cory did this but here it is on film...Cory nawin on a testicle

The next day we headed to Canada. No problem at the border and made it to Panorama in short order. This is a very nice little mountain village. Cool stuff.

Hit the driving range on Monday. Cory has the most disgusting golf swing. But he can hit the ball far.
Went rafting yesterday and had fun but was a little disappointed.

Today we decided to do some down hilling as this place is home to a top notch down hill trails. Turned out not to be a smart move.

Yeah. Cory broke his little finger today. He says we will still race and let me tell you this...Fuck Mike Moore, cause the hospital would not even talk to him until they had a credit card number.

Damn!

Another kick in the panits is that there is a big wild fire problem up her at the moment. Our race has already had a day that had a major change do to this. In 2003 the race was almost canceled cause of fires.

SS Chuck flys in tomarrow night. Gota get him in Calgary.

It has taken me almost 2 hours to post this so I be done now. Hopfuly more later.
He now ends the reading. Please be seated

Leave in a few

Off to Canada in a few hours.
The man once again is keepin me down. More Big wigs are coming so I will have to cut me Vac. short by a day.

D-train is due in at noon. I got a bunch of shit to load up in that little 4 runner of his. Not sure if it is all going to fit.
  • 3 small plastic tubs
  • 1, 4 foot by 1 foot plastic tub
  • 1 big tub
  • 2 large bags
  • 2 med bags
  • 2 bikes
D-train has similar shit.

We shall see if this race is worth all the trouble. No worries though cause next year I be going here

The question is...Naughty or nice?

Shit

I live a mile from this. My place is the exit before. A few hundred feet before the bridge. I had crossed it twice at lunchtime yesterday running to Hollywood’s, glad I did not wait and do it after work. Officially D-train and I are cut off from each other. It was a bitch to get to his place in the south before this now…

I have always been skeptical of the media when they cover things like this. They are profiteering idiots. There has been so much incorrect information being spewed to the world from these people it is a wonder that anyone will listen to them.

This is going to mess up the city for years. Traffic on both the roads and the barge traffic on the river. Should be an interesting time.

For all of you out there keep this in mind. Most of us who live in the city had given up driving over that bridge during the rush hour do to the traffic.

Anyway D-train is off to Denver and hopefully he will be back in Mpls Friday morning. Got a bit of backing to do yet but should be ready. Buck Hill race tonight, not sure if I am going, as there is no good way to get there.

Holy Crap!!!

We leave in 72 hours!!! Holy Crap

OK so this is me finishing 3rd on Sunday...3rd from last. Did not have any energy. I remember a few months ago that I was going to stop drinking in the month of July so I could be ready for the TRC. Well, that did not quite pan out. Sunday I raced, but I had been out late Wed, Thur, Fri nights and drank a bit on Sat. Go figure.

It is still bleepin hot here. Hence the limited amount of postings.

Been spending money like crazy getting shit for this race. Will most likely not need 80% of the crap we are bringing.

The Man has kept me busy this week working 10 hours days so packing is quite behind schedule. Hopefully I can make it up soon.

Don't know what else to say at the moment...Well one last thing. Mayo, nice you piece of crap. Good riddance.

I just want this thing to start. I am sick of the prep work. I now know that these kind of vacations are great but I do not like the planning. I am more of a grab whats clean and head for the airport kinda traveler. The amount of effort to get ready for this trip has been stressful.

Drink up

Rassmessass good riddance

And not just cause your a jack ass, your a cheat.

You think the riders are going to learn soon...
I have to admit that as much as I think this guy is a prick I can't help feel a bit for how devastated he must feel right now.

He still deserves a Big Ol' F you

More good vibes

Hey Vino

I found this wonderful post on the TRC forum. Some good news...

Something else to keep in mind is the access for the watering stations along the way. The route we will be taking is litterally in the middle of nowhere, and the organizers and volunteers do a great job of making sure that we have aid stations and medics where we really need them. On average they will be every 30kms or so, which means anywhere from 1-3hours apart. They are usually at the start of the long climbs and are really a sight for sore eyes.
The transrockies is an amazingly well organized event that shows you what can be done through hard work and a love of mountain biking. You will be treated to the best of Canadian hospitality surrounded by Natures most spectacular sights, wildlife, mountains, waterfalls and rivers. You will be well fed, hydrated and entertained. You will have hot running water 50miles from the closest municiple water source. You will have the ability to purchase a massage (cash only) have your bike fixed (they give credit) or even buy a burger or cold beer while you wait for dinner. Every night, after riding well marked trails, you will be surrounded by hundreds of your friends to watch video and stills of the events of the day. You are going to be given the opportunity to make this the time of your life. That is why so many of us do this every year. For one I can't wait and I look forward to the surprises that the route organizers have in store for us. Laughing [/img]

Vino

You know I have been thinking on just what I should say to this, and no matter how hard I try to find something different that sums up my feelings I can't.

So Vino...Fuck you

Boners and Dicks

Doing an event like the TRC brings out a lot of emotions and has been interesting to see which camp my friends land in. It appears that either we are going to quit by day 3 or we are going to finish and have fun. Everyone has their reasons as to our ability to complete this. No worries though. None of the critiques have been done in malice and have instead shown the real concern that they may have. But just in case I have read into their comments wrongly, BLEEP OFF.

Here is an e-mail that AC had sent D-train and I.

If I were you two, I would have a boner right now. Even if you don't
win :-) you will get to see some awesome scenery. Don't over pack! You
will stink on your trip, accept that. Bears won't hurt you unless they
feel like they have no other choice but to fight or eat you. Out in the
open, bears run away. Eat tuna. If you have to siphon water out of a
stream to drink it, bring a small packet of powdered lemonade to kill
the irony, Guardia taste. "Ironman" by Judas Priest is a good song to
hum so you can keep proper cadence in the big ring.

Yes.

-AC

Road 92 miles in windy conditions over consistent rolling hills on Sunday. Did it in 5 hours. Had been drinking the last 2 nights and had less than 4 hours of sleep. This should simulate the 8500 or so feet of climbing at altitude on Day 5.

Check the stage distances and elevation gain.

Day 1
31.7 miles
4411 feet gain
Day 2

39.6 miles
4719 feet gain
Day 3
66.7 miles
4270 feet gain
Day 4
58.8 miles
5011 feet gain
Day 5 - GULP!
67.6 miles
8528 feet gain
Day 6
47.7 miles
6560 feet gain
Day 7
37.8 miles
3608 feet gain

Kits are in and they look cool. Pictures to follow…Maybe.

This Bleepin Rocks!!!

Check this out.
D-train has our 2 week trip to Canada covered. Check his recent e-mail

So I’m thinking when someone asks us August 22nd we’ll say.

Well we mountain biked around British Columbia, did some Heli-hiking, played 18 holes and then did a little white water rafting…oh ya and biked across the Canadian rockies.

Hell Yeah. Bring it on Bitches

Moment of Zen

D-Train and I Did the second WORS marathon race this past weekend in Green Bay. I did not do as well as I wanted to do, but what the hell. D and I had a bit of a spat Sunday after the race something about me being too negative and him being out of shape and ill prepared for the TRC. I even got a strongly worded e-mail from D the next day to chill out. Fuck it. It is what it is.

You want to know a bit about how him and I roll check this

If I was to lead, lets say, the Lewis and Clark expedition. I would have packed a bunch of shit, took many people, thought of all the things that could go wrong and stressed out about the trip until it was started.

If D-Train was too lead that same expedition, he would have grabbed a gun, a few rounds of ammo, maybe one glove and a couple of guys he met at the bar and left for the pacific.

I say this cause we both knew we were like this before we signed up for the race. We will be like this after the race. It is who we are and it is the balance that will get us through our 7-day expedition across the great divide.

So fuck all and bring some whiskey cause I do know one thing. D and I both think that good bear spray is not the kind that comes in a bottle but one that comes in a .44 Magnum.

Kiss My Ass and bring on the bears!!!! (Yeah well I can out run D so…)

There is some bad Ju Ju round here

There is something going on out there that I have yet to understand.
He is what has happened in the last 12 months
  • Co-Worker Dies on the way to work from a stroke. He was in his late thirties.
  • A close friend's dad gets an aggressive form of cancer
  • CO-worker and friend's daughter is born with half a heart
  • Co-worker and friend's wife gets brain cancer
  • A couple of me peeps get in trouble with the law
  • A couple of me peeps lose their jobs
  • A friend divorces
  • An ex-co-worker dies in a tractor accident
  • And now a friend crashes on his bicycle and ends up in the ICU under a drug induced comma due to a double skull fracture
Damn, that's a lot of shit go down in 12 months.
